Laredo Lady Texans 2010 Team
Valerie Lopez (YBOA Nationals MVP winner) and Georgia Xplosion opponent
On July 16th, 2010, the Laredo Lady Texans of Trautmann Elementary School (9-10 yr old) took home 3rd place at YBOA Nationals in Kissimmee, Florida. Leading up to Nationals the girls took home five 1st place wins at various tournaments, and went undefeated in the 2010 BCG League. It was no surprise that the girls were able to secure a spot in this year's YBOA Nationals and hold their own against some of the best teams in the nation.
The Laredo Lady Texans are led by Coach Roland De La Cruz. Most of the girls have been playing together for several years and have had the opportunity to form a cohesive team that works well together. This summer, G7's Coach Mike Garza had the opportunity to train the girls with specific programming to help the girls prepare for Nationals. It was obvious to Coach Mike and everyone at G7 that these girls were hard workers and had a lot of heart and love for their game.
The girls are small in comparison to most of their opponents, but their passion and attitude makes up for their stature and gives them the edge they need to continue stunning audiences with their skills. At YBOA Nationals the girls were just 3 points shy of beating an undefeated team from Georgia for the 1st place win. Take a look at the picture of Valerie Lopez above, and you can see just what they were up against. "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog!"
Congrautulations to the Laredo Lady Texans for all their hard work! Special congratulations to Valerie Lopez for winning MVP for the entire YBOA Naionals tournament. You inspire all of us at G7 to keep working towards our own goals and help us to continue believing that anything is possible.
