Encouraging. Challenging. Transforming.

Gus Orta

My name is Gus Orta, I am 16 years old and I joined in G7 Athletics in May of 2011. I joined because I wanted to get fit over the summer.
Before joining G7 I would jog and bike ride to “try” and stay healthy. I wasn’t the fastest jogger. I could run a mile in about 14 to 15 minutes and that was difficult for me. When I finished my first official class at G7, I  realized how out of shape I was. I was embarrassed at how badly I performed but I told my self “stick with it and you’ll see the results you want”. I remember not being able to do pushups, having to use the biggest band to do pull-ups, being a little fatigued after the warm up, and “almost” wanting to give up my first month of being there.
But surely enough my hard work has paid off! I can now do push ups, pull-ups with a smaller band, and I can run 1 mile in 11 minutes and 3 miles in under 36 minutes. Now when I wake up the first thing I think of is what the work out at G7 is going to be and, when I am at school I just want the day to fly by so I can go to the gym. I no longer have thoughts of wanting to give up or stop and during each workout. I try and push a little bit harder by increasing the weight I use, the height of the box or shaving a few seconds off my time.
I have learned how to eat healthy and I look forward to continued success at G7. I owe all my success to the coaches/athletes who push and motivate me. Especially head coach, Rob for helping me during the “G-Force Challenge”, and my mother and brother for working right beside me.
In my 6 months at G7 I have lost 43 pounds and 6 inches off my waist.

1. Why did you join G7Athletics?
I was looking for something different…I was a member of a local gym for what seemed like forever and not seeing any results. I was tired of the same monotonous routine, and I even stopped going.  A friend mentioned G7 Athletics on her social network, and out of curiosity, I called her. She described it as a gym with different intense workouts and recommended that I try it. My gym membership had not expired and would not expire for another 3 months, but I knew that my weight was increasing daily and that something had to be done about it.  When I signed up March 1st, I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but it has been the best life investment thus far.
2. What was your life prior to G7 Athletics?
Life prior to G7Athletics?  Sluggish, slow, and depressing. I would go to a park every night to run, twice a day on weekends. Nothing was happening. I stopped going to the gym because I was frustrated with the lack of help, support, and lack of results. I was always tired – no energy. I was depressed with my weight gain and did not want to go out in public. I pushed my friends away because I was angry with myself –life was not interesting. My clothes did not fit, and I started buying larger sizes, which made my depression and attitude worse.
3. What results have you seen since joining the G7Athletics community?
Since joining G7Athletics, I have had a more active lifestyle – and by active I mean that people want to be around me. I am a more cheerful person and that comes from feeling good about my results. I have a ton of energy, I feel like I am always laughing, dancing, running, playing. When people ask me where I get my energy- -I smile and think, G7Athletics. It may sound trite, but my physical body and my attitude have completely evolved into a different person because of G7.
4. Has G7Atheltics helped you breakthrough any mental barriers?
“I can’t do this. I’m not athletic. I am not an athlete”.  Athletes were people with fit bodies capable of running marathons or lifting 100 pounds…I certainly did not look like an athlete, could not run a marathon or lift 100 pounds.  Initially, all of these things entered my mind every time I would pull into the G7Athletics drive.  But as soon as I walked into the gym I’d feel welcomed and encouraged.  As a beginner, I did pushups on the wall and burpees on a box and was not chastised for it.  I am proud and excited about my results. G7Athletics has a nurturing environment – - if you truly want results, G7Athletics is the place for it.
5.  List any data & hard numbers (before and current).
I have lost 11 lbs., more than 8 inches, and 3 pants sizes.

1. Why did you join G7Athletics?
Change! I joined G7 because I was tired of going to a regular gym and not seeing any results. It was the same routine all the time. I had heard about it from other people and thought let me give it a try; my summer was only beginning! And I have NO regrets.
2. What was your life prior to G7 Athletics?
Prior to G7 Athletics…emotionally I was such a happy person, enjoying my first year of marriage. Physically and mentally, I was tired, didn’t have the energy to go workout and was going up in dress sizes. When I realized how big I was getting, I knew I had to do something about this.
3.What results have you seen since joining the G7Athletics community?
Great results!! I’m so proud of myself for making so many changes to my lifestyle. In addition, I’m glad I also have my husband who has also chosen to do the same and share this great experience and healthy lifestyle. I love the programming, the awesome people, and coaches who have helped me get through this. Physically, I feel great, strong, powerful, and just love the fact that when I go shopping, I look forward to it!!
4.Has G7Atheltics helped you breakthrough any mental barriers?
G7 has allowed me to believe that I can overcome any physical obstacle. I have become a runner…yes a runner!! I have become a rower, yes a rower!! It’s the Best Feeling!
5. List any data & hard numbers (before and current).

1.  Why did you join G7Athletics?
I wanted to regain the fitness level I had when I was playing soccer during my high school/college years. I had been a “member” at local gyms; however, I never really did become fit…either the routine became old or the push was not there to get me out of my “fitness” comfort zone. My wife, Cassy, joined G7 in June 2011 and she would share how fun, unexpected, and tough the workouts were on a daily basis. This got me interested, and so I joined.
2.  What was your life prior to G7 Athletics?
Emotionally, I was enjoying every bit of my life with my beautiful wife. Physically, I felt sluggish after long days of work, this in turn had negatively impacted the way I looked at myself. I knew I had “let go” of being fit…I was ready for a change.
3.  What results have you seen since joining the G7Athletics community?
I feel great that both my wife and I have made a change in our lifestyle both physically, and mentally.  I feel energized all day and my strength has improved dramatically. The group/community setting at G7 pushes me to my limit and has made me strong mentally and physically. I feel great!
4.  Has G7Atheltics helped you breakthrough any mental barriers?
Yes, during every workout…I am just about ready to go easy on an exercise and I am able to push myself to that next level to improve my time, weight or technique. Whether it’s running or rowing 2500+ meters, I know I “will” do it no matter the obstacles.
5.  List any data & hard numbers (before and current).
